3 Truths in ONE Verse that Will Bring You Comfort

The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble;
And He knows those who trust in Him. - Nahum 1:7

Nahum 1:7 has always been one of my favorite verses of the Scriptures and through out every season of my life, it has become the anthem of my faith. This verse gives me so much comfort and I want to share with you why it ought to bring you comfort as well.

1. "The Lord is good".

From the very beginning we see this characteristic of the essence of God. The Bible says that when He created everything out of nothing, He looked at His work and saw that "it was very good." You produce based on who you are. What is inside of you eventually comes out. For our God, that is the case. King David wrote, "you are good and do only good . . ."

So trust that your God who IS good has DONE good for you and will always DO good. In every state I am in life I look to Him because of His goodness. Be extremely encourage at this truth because if you are in a negative situation His goodness for you will prevail because He loves you.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
— Romans 8:28 (KJV)

It won't just turn out ok for me. It will turn out GOOD for me! Do you believe that? Thank God for His goodness and seek to see that so much that every time you hear or read the word good you think GOD. He will not holdback His goodness from you!

2. "A stronghold in the day of trouble"

Allstate Insurance has been running a popular ad campaign under the theme, "Mayhem" where the antagonist is a metaphor for all the disasters that in our lives due to chance, negligence, mistakes, or ignorance. The commercial usually ends with the tag line, "Mayhem is everywhere. Are you in good hands?"

When I see those commercials I laugh and say, "as a matter of fact I am in GOOD hands!" I am in the strong hands of God and His grip on me sustains me, protects me, and keeps me secured no matter what comes my way.

The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
— Psalms 9:9 (NIV)

Times of trouble will come. It is inevitable that you will face hardships. You might be in marriage or relationship trouble, you might be in financial or health trouble, you may even be in spiritual and emotional trouble but the circumstance of trouble does NOT mean you are alone. "The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all." (Psalms 34:19)

Jesus Chirst is your security, your fortress, and your refuge. This is the greatest insurance you can have because our God IS able and mighty to save. You are not alone to fight on your own. God is with you every step of the way, fighting for you, and He will protect you with power and strength! (Click this to tweet)

3. "And He knows those who trust in Him"

No statement motivates me to pray in faith as much as this one. To know that God, who created all things with His might and power, knows me enables me to live a life full of faith. Let this empower you today: You are somebody because you know SOMEBODY that is greater than all you can ever imagine.

Let's consider this:

"[David] Kornreich used a very rough estimate of 10 trillion galaxies in the universe. Multiplying that by the Milky Way's estimated 100 billion stars results in a large number indeed: 100 octillion stars, or 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars, or a "1" with 29 zeros after it. Kornreich emphasized that number is likely a gross underestimation, as more detailed looks at the universe will show even more galaxies." (How Many Stars Are in the Universe?

That is a whole lot of stars that God created and want to know something more amazing than that? God has the infinite knowledge and capacity to know each one the stars He made.

Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, Not one of them is missing.
— Isaiah 40:26 (NASB)

He calls them by name? Yes He does.

And guess what? He also knows you by name!

That's not all! He knows you, his precious child, more than you know yourself. He knows your fears and struggles, what makes you happy and confident, He knows how to bless you and when to do it, and what to keep from you.

He knows your heart and the thoughts that you may not have shared with anyone. He knows all the deepest pain that you have ever felt.

"He keeps track of all your sorrows. Collects all your tears in a bottle. And records each of them in His book." (Psalms 56:8) That means that every single time you have shed a tear God stores it because it is precious to Him and takes into account as to why you have cried?

Don't think for a moment that when you cry alone, helplessly wondering if there's hope, that God doesn't notice you. He does notice you and He is your hope.

God knows you and me because He is so madly in love with us. When we trust Him we can rest assured that He won't forget us ever. In fact, He is constantly updating our profile with all the latest happenings of our lives. Jesus Christ said that the "very hairs on your head are numbered." (Matthew 10:30)

A preacher told me that that not only means He knows how many hairs are on your head, but that because they are numbered, He knows which one is still on you head, which of them fall out, which of them you color, which of them you trim, and so forth. Isn't it amazing to see the depth of God's knowledge about us? We should pursue to know Him with the same passion He demonstrates when it comes to knowing us.

Believe This Truth

Take Nahum 1:7 an tattoo it in your heart so that you will always remember that:

"The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble;
And He knows those who trust in Him"

I haven't always felt like an overcomer but I have learned to trust the One who has overcome it all. I remember about this verse every time trouble comes my why. And I pray that you do as well.

May God continue to show you His mighty goodness.
